artist statement

My passions are portrait photography, documentary photography, and travel photography. I try to keep a fresh eye in looking at the world, so that the portraits I capture can reach down deep and reveal something about each subject’s unique character. I believe that a great portrait is more than just a photograph; it is an artistic expression that conveys not just the subject's likeness, but also their personality. I strive to provide great portraits, portraits that go beyond mere picture-taking that you will cherish for many years to come.

As a free-lance photographer in the Chicago area, I use a variety of professional film and digital cameras. As digital photographic and printing processes have improved and now match or exceed traditional processes in quality and archivability, I currently work primarily digitally. I attend Photoshop and photography seminars and workshops regularly, to stay on top of the latest photographic techniques and printing methods.

I have unrelenting attention to quality and detail. I personally print and retouch every image I take; I send nothing out to labs, nor entrust any work to junior staff. I also have a firm commitment to superior customer service. See my outstanding ratings on Angie's List: www.angieslist.com.

My professional pursuit of photography as a career began after receiving a second BA in Photography and Art & Design from Columbia College. My work has been exhibited in a number of juried shows and exhibitions (see my "Exhibitions" page for more information). My client list includes numerous individuals and families, we well as corporations, non-profit organizations, design agencies, real estate firms, and photography instructors.
